Behind the scenes : Rendezvous 2009

what went wrong and how it all happened.

Even before the germ of idea occurred to me I was sure that this would be my most controversial article till date and well I really don't know if it will see the publication light.

Catch-line : “Omerta” : the code of silence. Pure Sicilian. And somebody broke the code. And now eyes don't meet.

It all began on the premises of a promise which the former was too innocent to legalize and the latter too careless to ignore. I saw the beginning of a new bond, too volatile and highly reactive so much so that the radical changes took place and priorities ( or so I believed) underwent path changes ...

The dark spaces were filled with smoke and smell and innovation and perseverance.

The air was full of adventure and a bit of philandering and a lot more promise. The former and the latter in their mutual understanding (I hope) placed the other in high regards.

But the latter erred when the former demanded. The demand was justified. You work and you earn respect. You put in hard work and it should be respected.Manipulation maybe but cheating is not the way the mafia functions. Certainly not the one breeding around us.

Negotiations ; compromises; hard work ; drinks; smoke; drugs; more hard work; creativity; innovation; and the result : a master-piece : a master piece valued by both parties but not fully appreciated by the latter. Not at least on paper. The word of honor was not valued. And by no means was the latter ready to bend. Why should the big and the strong and the powerful bow in front of the talented and the intellectual and the right?

So what followed was no surprise : a duel of minds and power and contacts. Neither was ready to step back. And at stake were the workings of an entire organized process and the image of a highly respected organized body of the intellects.

What could be replaced by gang fights and guns and brawl was instead done with threats and calls. Blood was spilled anyways. Then the godfather stepped in.

He didn’t do much. Could not do much. The heavens protect the right. But he threatened nevertheless. And the threat was peculiar : baseless. I mean blackmail as an accusation? (ridiculous!) The flaws were visible but the consequences fatal.( I mean you do reconsider your position if your future is at stake right?)

And cards flipped and the bad won.

But what victory is worth it when it is publicly rejected? And you can’t look into the vanquished eyes. Or anyone else’s for that matter?

What is Guatam Vora hiding?

Now begins the dirty game. The wronged have got themselves a spokesperson and photos and chats have been made public. You see the scantily clad duo getting cozy as the numerous news channels are so blatantly reminding us again and again.

The entire episode has all the makings of a great tea-time mystery : hot model, rich businessman, semi-nude pictures, a fertility test, a dairy entry and a suicide/murder. And now that it is in the public with the victim’s family fighting for justice and the truth, I just can’t help but gape at Vora’s erratic behavior.

If the man is right, or so he claims, where was he for the two days following the death? Mourning secretly for his beloved/business partner? And then why sign up for an anticipatory bail immediately after coming out in the open? In the solidarity did it occur to him that he might be mistaken for the prime accused since he was her financial advisor/lover? Why the fear Mr.Vora? What are you hiding?

If you are indeed right, then shouldn’t you have been by her family’s side sharing their sorrow? Shouldn’t you have been shedding a tear or two at her funeral or making sorrowful remarks to the camera? Shouldn’t you be telling us about your great loss and your greater love for her ?

Yes she wrote in her dairy that you killed her. But then she had a history of depression(or so a few claim). Then if you are a culprit, couldn’t you for once be smart and just think all the things in your favor and then act accordingly. I am so disappointed in your plain stupidity. What is with all the "blame game" and "soiling her character" and the "financial advisor" bit and that you were "just friends" and that she was "depressed" as such? I mean seriously you think you are going to get away with that? Your conscience might not bug you but then do you think her family will leave you? Its money vs money and power vs power this time. And even if you get away with that do you think this country’s press is going to spare you? No sir not until they dig the truth, get one meaningful explanation from you : in short cook and serve you at prime time.
